Mechanical Design & Installation Notes

Proper installation helps maintain high-speed stability, protect the bearing system, and reduce vibration during OEM integration.

Compact Motor Structure
The BDCL1020 uses a Φ10 × 20 mm cylindrical housing, making it suitable for miniature assemblies where radial space, axial length, and total system weight are limited.

Bearing and Shaft Loading
Axial play is 0.05–0.15 mm, while radial play is ≤0.015 mm. Maximum dynamic axial load is 0.8 N, and maximum radial load is 8 N measured 5 mm from the flange. Excessive press-fit force, shaft misalignment, or radial loading should be avoided.

Operating Conditions
The recommended ambient temperature range is -20°C to +80°C, with relative humidity below 90% RH at 25°C. Maximum rotor temperature should not exceed 85°C.

Bearing and Gearbox Options
Ball bearing and sleeve bearing configurations are available, and an optional planetary gearbox can be integrated when lower output speed or higher torque is required.

FAQ – BDCL1020 Coreless Brushless DC Motor

Q1: Why does the motor fail to reach its specified speed after integration?

A1: Actual speed can be limited by insufficient driver voltage, current limits, mechanical load, bearing resistance, or controller commutation settings. For ultra-high-speed operation, the motor and driver must be evaluated as one system rather than selected independently.

Q2: Why does the motor temperature rise quickly at high speed?

A2: Temperature rise is influenced by current, load torque, airflow, switching strategy, and operating duration. Running the motor near maximum load without adequate cooling can increase winding and rotor temperature, even when the no-load speed appears acceptable.

Q3: Why does vibration become more noticeable at very high rotational speeds?

A3: At high speed, small issues such as shaft misalignment, coupling imbalance, mounting stress, and load eccentricity can generate significant vibration. Proper balancing, rigid mounting, and accurate mechanical alignment are essential during integration.

Q4: What is the warranty period for the BDCL1020 motor?

A4: BODENMOTION provides a 1-year warranty under normal operating conditions. Damage caused by improper installation, misuse, operation outside the specified limits, or other non-product-quality issues is not covered.

Q5: Is there a brushed alternative for applications that do not require ultra-high speed?

A5: Yes. The BDCB1626 coreless graphite brushed DC motor is recommended for applications requiring moderate speed, stronger rated torque, longer brush life, and simpler two-wire control. It is a practical alternative when ultra-high rotational speed and brushless commutation are not necessary.
